The Michigan Challenge Balloonfest is one of Michigan’s most anticipated, family-friendly summer traditions. Hosted by the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce, the 41st annual festival takes place from June 26 to June 28, 2026, on the grounds of Howell High School in Howell, Michigan.
As the signature community event of the summer, the festival features:
Spectacular Skies: Breathtaking hot air balloon launches, fly-ins, and high-flying competitions throughout the weekend.
The Evening Glow: The crowd-favorite night “balloon glow,” where pilots inflate their anchored balloons on the field, lighting up the evening sky in a kaleidoscope of brilliant colors.
Family-Friendly Entertainment: A lively carnival with thrilling rides, kid-friendly attractions, a buzzing open-air marketplace, diverse food vendors, and a dazzling fireworks display.
It is a beautiful weekend celebration of community, adventure, and summertime fun that draws visitors from all across the state.
